Will it fit my window?
Three measurements decide it: the diameter of the existing cut-out, the thickness of the glass or panel, and the clear border around the hole for the frame. Glass-mounted models such as the 15WUD and 20WUD clamp through a single pane, so that pane must be plain glass — toughened and laminated panes cannot be drilled once made, so a glazier must supply a pane with the hole already in it. Where a fan is already fitted, order the same nominal size.
Is 6″ enough, or should I take the 8″?
The window range runs to 8″ only. Take 6″ (15WHCT, 15WAA, 15WUD) for a domestic bathroom, guest WC or store room. Take 8″ (20WHCT, 20WAA, 20WUD) where the room is shared, the shower runs several times a day, or steam still hangs ten minutes after use. Heavier cooking extraction is beyond a pane-mounted fan.
What does the shutter add on a window fan?
WAA models close a hinged louvre when the fan switches off. On a pane facing a street, car park or light well that matters: an idle open fan is a direct path for blown sand and insects. Swapping one into an opening that already has a fan and supply is quick work; anything needing a new circuit is for a licensed electrician.
