Will it dim my LED lamps?
Not every dimmer works with every lamp. Older dimmers were designed around the steady resistive load of an incandescent or halogen bulb; an LED lamp draws a far smaller and less predictable load, and the wrong pairing gives flicker, buzzing, a dead zone at the bottom of the travel or no dimming. The MK Essentials Intelligent LED dimmers here are the ones intended for LED loads, and the lamp itself has to be a dimmable model — most standard LED bulbs are not.
What do 600W, 1000W and 250VA mean?
That is the load the dimmer can carry. Add up the wattage of every lamp on the switch and stay inside it. Dimmers also have a minimum load, which is easy to drop below when a halogen circuit is re-lamped to LED — a common reason lights flicker after an upgrade.
Is a fan speed controller the same thing?
No. The MK 250VA fan speed control switch in this collection regulates a ceiling fan motor, and it is not a lighting dimmer — just as a lighting dimmer should not be put on a fan.
Settle dimmer and lamp compatibility before you buy, and have a licensed electrician make the change at the wall box.
