How is a bell switch different from a light switch?
A bell push is retractive, or momentary: it makes contact only while pressed and springs back the instant you let go. A light switch latches until you press it again. Fit an ordinary switch to a doorbell and the bell keeps sounding, which is why the button has to be the retractive type. The pushes stocked here are rated 10A, comfortably above anything a bell or chime circuit draws.
Do I need one with an indicator?
Some models carry a small illuminated indicator or a moulded bell symbol so the button can be found in the dark — worth having at a villa gate or an unlit corridor. Plain buttons cost less and are the usual choice indoors, where the door is lit anyway.
Will it replace my existing button?
These are standard 1-gang plates, so a like-for-like swap onto an existing box is normally direct — check plate size and box depth if you are changing brand. The chime or transformer feeding the button is a separate item; if that side of the circuit needs altering, or the button is being fed from a new supply, use a licensed electrician.
