Grid or glue board — what is the difference?
Both types use a UV-A tube as the attractant; they differ in how the insect is caught. An electric grid kills on contact with a charged mesh and needs only the collection tray emptied. A glue board traps the insect on an adhesive sheet, with nothing thrown clear of the unit, the general reason glue-board designs are preferred where open food is handled. Glue boards are consumables and lose tack as they fill.
How often do UV-A tubes need changing?
A UV-A tube keeps lighting long after it stops attracting anything, so a unit that still glows may be doing very little. Output falls away over months of use; changing tubes about once a year, before the warm season, keeps a unit pulling properly. Wipe the reflector and grid at the same time — dust cuts performance.
Which fitting suits the space?
Wall-mount units keep the fitting clear of work surfaces, the usual choice for kitchens and stores. Stainless steel wipes down and copes with humid coastal air; painted steel is fine in drier indoor spaces. Mount away from external doors, and never over an open food surface. Anything hard-wired or fixed at height should be installed by a licensed electrician.
